Abstract

Background: Low Birth Weight (LBW) is associated with neonatal mortality and morbidity, impaired growth and cognitive development, and chronic diseases later in life. LBW can also seriously affect the quality of future generations because it can slow the growth and development of children, and therefore contributes to a decrease of intelligence. Methods: This study is a secondary data analysis, the data source is the result of National Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2013 with coverage of all provinces in Indonesia. The unit of analysis is the baby. The data were processed using descriptive analysis and logistic regression. Results: The percentage of low birth weight is 6.37% nationwide. Conclusion: Incidence of low birth weight is influenced by many factors the number of children, the occurrence of complications during pregnancy, low economic status and the baby girl. The most impact variable is the risk of complication during pregnancy reaches 2.74 times. Recommendation: It is needed improved efforts in handling Infants with low birth weight so that it will not result in death or impaired physical and mental growth and development of infants that affect on the quality of state human resources and increase the state burden.
